Major car brands launch automotive apprentice service

The Automotive Apprenticeship Matching Service introduced to help develop a skilled UK workforce and to attract new talent

Leading car manufacturers have come together to launch a new service to help the UK in developing a skilled automotive workforce to take forward into the future.
The Automotive Apprenticeship Matching Service was launched last week in an effort to bridge the gap in the UK’s skilled workforce.
The Matching Service, which was developed by and is funded through the Automotive Industrial Partnership and supported by the government, will help almost 10,000 skilled applicants each year to secure an automotive apprenticeship after they may have failed to be accepted on the company programme that they applied for.
Through the new Matching Service, unsuccessful applicants will be offered positions with other companies who run similar services within the automotive industry.
Semta, who promote advanced manufacturing skills, has new research revealing that a shortage of acceptable training provisions within the automotive sector, could have a huge impact on the skills required to continue automotive productivity in the UK into the future, especially within the manufacturing and engineering sectors.
In a recently published report, it was found that up to 5,000 job vacancies in the automotive sector could be sitting vacant because of a lack of skilled workers to fill them.
The Matching Service is an interactive service aided by the apprenticeship matching platform GetMyFirstJob, who will work closely with both applicants and companies across the board.
