New Volvo XC90 in city testing stage

The hotly anticipated Volvo XC90 has been spotted being put through its paces during city testing in Copenhagen.
Typically, Volvo’s city testing aims to asses the car’s performance when it comes to real-world driving and the effectiveness of its pedestrian safety systems.
Volvo has let it be known that, with the Volvo XC90, they are aiming to produce one of the safest cars ever made.
Set to go on sale for £40,000 in 2015, the XC90 will be the first Volvo built using the Scalable Platform Architecture (SPA) which is set to underpin the construction of forthcoming Volvo cars.
It is this SPA system which Volvo believe holds the key to creating one of the safest cars on the market and will see the car’s safety cage utilising a mix of different steel grades to maximise the strength and protection it provides.
Further new safety features are set to include new camera and radar technology, which Volvo claims will work to prevent accidents before they occur, and a detection and auto-brake feature, used for detecting pedestrians and large animals when driving in low-light levels.
Volvo expect that the new safety features set to be installed in the XC90 will help them achieve their goal of 0 serious fatalities or injuries in a Volvo car by 2020.
