Is a credit check required for new leases?

Yes. When you decide to lease a new vehicle, whether it’s for a month or a year, you’ll be required to enter into a legal contract between you (the hirer) and the registered vehicle keeper (the lease company). As such, we have a duty to perform an affordability check to make sure the short-term lease is right for you.

To apply for a new vehicle lease, you’ll be required to complete the details on either a personal proposal form or a business proposal form (whichever is more relevant to you). This will then allow us to begin our credit checking process;

  • Once we’ve received your application, we’ll submit it to our in-house credit team so they can make an informed decision
  • They’ll perform checks to verify your identity and address, as well as taking into account your income and expenditure
  • We’ll normally have a decision back to you within 24 working hours following submission

If you’re approved, you’re not committed to leasing a vehicle, but an account is open to you.

There may be some instances where you fall into our ‘grey’ area and we may ask for a refundable deposit to support your application. This money simply sits on your account and is refunded back to you in full at the end of the contract – providing no outstanding charges occur during the lease.

As we underwrite the contracts ourselves, we’ll look at each application individually. So don’t worry about not being approved!
