Three major supermarkets cut the price of fuel at the pumps – great news for motorists!
Three major supermarkets in the UK have sparked a petrol price war in the run up to Christmas, hoping to tempt more shoppers in through their doors.
Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s have all reduced the price of fuel at their pumps, helping customers save a little bit of money over the busy Christmas spending season.
All three supermarket giants have cut the price of unleaded by 2p a litre, whilst Morrisons have slashed the price of diesel by the same amount. Both Asda and Sainsbury’s have cut the cost of diesel at their pumps by 1p a litre.

The reduction at this trio of UK supermarkets will be welcome news to shoppers following a recent report that stated the cost of fuel in the country had reached a three-year high.
In November, the average cost of unleaded was 120.19p per litre, whilst the same amount of diesel was costing road users 122.59p.
The recent storms in the US were said to have sent a barrel of oil to around $65, resulting in the increase of fuel at forecourts across Britain but despite the price of oil dropping back down, the cost for consumers at the pumps had yet to reflect this.
According to Simon Williams, RAC’s fuel spokesman, these price wars between supermarkets should provide “some very welcome relief for motorists who have suffered a 3p a litre rise in the average price of petrol since mid-August as a result of Storm Harvey hitting the US Gulf Coast and disrupting refineries.”
