University of Bath representatives have met with the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills
The Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills has met with representatives from the University of Bath to discuss the proposed plans for a £50million automotive research centre at Bristol and Bath science park.
Secretary Sajid Javid attended the meeting with Ben Howlett MP and Chris Skidmore MP, who gathered with the University of Bath’s vice president Steve Egan, the university’s director of research & innovation services Dr Jon Hunt, and Gary Hawley, the dean of the faculty of engineering & design Professor, to listen to the university’s proposals for the research centre.

The £50m spearheading research centre will offer training to undergraduate, masters and PhD students who can hone their automotive skills in an environment brimming with the latest automotive developments and research.
The University of Bath said that the new centre will create many jobs within the West of England and “help ensure the UK maintains and expands its global position within the automotive sector”.
Mr Javid said that he was impressed with the university’s plans and that the government should do more to support the universities that want to “collaborate” with the automotive industry. The Secretary said that his team will now be working “with the university on this idea and hopefully together we can identify the necessary sources of funding to get this off the ground.”
