Experts fear up to 60,000 cars will break down over the May Day holiday weekend as temperatures rise

 
According to the experts, around 60,000 cars are expected to break down over the Bank Holiday weekend as temperatures rise and many of us take to the roads to enjoy the warm weather.
Not only does a cold spell of weather play havoc with our cars, so too does hot weather and motorists should prepare for possible issues arising with their vehicles.
The experts suggest that one car every 5 seconds will either not start or break down over the extended weekend and warns drivers to plan ahead to prevent getting caught out.

 
“We have a few days of continuous hot weather predicted and unsurprisingly people will be taking to the roads to make the most of the sun,” said Claire Hildreth at Green Flag, adding: “However, the nature of breakdowns change quite noticeably in the heat, so preparing for your journey is essential. Hot weather puts several crucial components in vehicles through a severe work out.”
As more and more of us take to the roads to enjoy the nice weather over the May Day holiday weekend, more traffic jams are expected in many areas and this means cars will have to sit for long periods of time with the hot sun beating down.
Carrying out a simple maintenance check before a planned journey is the best advice and could prevent an issue from arising with your car such as a break down or even the car not starting at all!
A quick check of the coolant, engine oil, water and tyres takes just a few minutes. And remember to take plenty of drinks with you on a long journey just in case you hit those traffic jams or do happen to breakdown.
When the temperatures are particularly hot, it’s advisable to carry out a basic maintenance check every week.
