New study reveals FRIDAY as the most common day of the week for car accidents
According to new figures gathered by Direct Line Car Insurance, the most common day of the week for car accidents in the UK is Friday, so if you’re out on the roads today please take extra care!
Over 700,000 road traffic accidents were analysed by Direct Line, who discovered that motorists are 14% more likely to be involved in an accident on a Friday compared to any other day of the week.
One hour in particular can be the riskiest time of all to be driving on a Friday, as 9% of all road traffic incidents happened during 5 and 6pm.

The study found that Sunday is the quietest day of the week regarding accidents and the day you’re less likely to be involved in a crash – on average, there’s 24% less collisions on a Sunday and this is due to there being fewer vehicles on the road on this day.
According to their findings, the total number of crashes dropped between 2011 and 2015 by 8%.
As part of their research, figures were looked at from the Office for National Statistics regarding the number of personal injury accidents which were reported to the police between 2011 and 2015.
The main reasons given by managing director at Direct Line Car Insurance, Gus Park, for why Friday is the most common day of the week for car crashes, is that it’s the last day of a working week so people are more tired, ready for home and looking forward to the weekend. Drivers can tend to start relaxing a little too soon, leading to a reduced attention span on the roads.
