Topping the list is night driving and it seems parents are in agreement
A new survey has discovered what learner drivers really want to be taught and tested on and what the biggest percentage would like to experience is more of what happens on the roads every day.
What Marmalade found out is that learner drivers aged between 17 to 24 would like to be guided and taught more about the following:
- Night Driving – 58%
- Rush-hour Driving – 48%
- Roadside Wheel Changing – 37%
And it seems as though parents are in agreement with young learner drivers as to what they should be being taught and tested on, with the same results topping the list of important real-life scenarios that learners should be educated in:
- Night Driving – 74%
- Rush-hour Driving – 66%
- Roadside Wheel Changing – 45%

Crispin Moger, CEO at car insurer’s Marmalade said: “We take it very seriously that new drivers are more likely to be involved in an accident,” also adding: “However, most bumps are not down to reckless behaviour, they’re caused by inexperience. Rather than apply restrictions, let’s encourage the Government to broaden their knowledge with skilled professionals, in a safe environment.”
Both learner drivers and their parents are in agreement as to what some of the most important aspects of learning to drive are which if implemented could help improve driving standards overall. Ensuring that new learner drivers are taught the basics from the start will encourage safer driving and boost their confidence, preparing them for the day when they go it alone after passing their practical test.
