Norway’s political parties agree on zero petrol and diesel vehicles in the country by 2025
According to Norwegian newspaper Dagens Naeringsliv, the political parties in Norway have reached an agreement to introduce a carpet ban on all petrol and diesel vehicles by 2025.
The Democratic and Liberal parties have confirmed the reports which claim that the “FRP will remove all gasoline cars”, however, the FRP itself, the popular right-wing Framstegspartiet (Progress Party), has said that the issue is still under discussion and a final decision has yet to be made.

The Norwegian Labour Party has already said it would introduce a ban on the sale of petrol or diesel autos by 2030, but the new proposal would mean that no petrol or diesel vehicles would be allowed on Norwegian roads by 2025.
At present, the four parties (Democratic, Liberal, Labour and Progress) govern Norway collectively. They have also discussed the possibility of a climate tax, which would be introduced for the use of electricity.
Norway is one of the leading countries in the world for environmentally friendly policies. Over 24 per cent of the vehicles used by Norwegians are electric and 99 per cent of the electricity generated there is from hydropower, while there is to be a £3bn investment in wind power to improve the country’s facilities by 2020.
Following the announcement of zero fossil-fuel autos by 2025, owner of American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla, Elon Musk, tweeted his support of the move: “Just heard that Norway will ban new sales of fuel cars in 2025. What an amazingly awesome country. You guys rock!!”
