Warning issued to motorists by the DVLA about taxing vehicles

All services this coming weekend will be down as essential systems maintenance is carried out

A warning is being issued to motorists in the UK by the DVLA about taxing vehicles over the coming weekend.

Many services, including online, via telephone or at a Post Office will be out of action this weekend as essential system maintenance is carried out.

Anyone wishing to tax a vehicle over the coming weekend will have to wait until Monday morning, so it might be an idea to postpone your plans or use the services in advance before Friday.

The contact centre as well as most other services will be unavailable from 3pm on Friday 17 August until 6am on Monday 20 August 2018. The contact centre will be available again from 8am on the Monday.

It will not be possible to tax a vehicle over these few days and the DVLA would like to warn drivers: “It’s against the law to drive an untaxed vehicle on the road. If you buy a car during this weekend you won’t be able to tax it until 6am on Monday 20 August.”

Since the paper tax disc was abolished, it’s no longer possible to carry over any months that might be remaining.

If you need to renew your 10-year photocard driving licence this weekend, you can still do so at your nearest Post Office, plus you will still be able to view and share your driving licence details with third parties, which also includes hire companies.
