The company plans to install 10 electric car chargers by the end of the year
A partnership deal has been struck between Shell and the Dutch EV charging provider Allego, with plans to introduce fast chargers at a select number of service stations across the country.
Shell confirmed in May this year that they planned to have 10 electric vehicle charging posts installed at various forecourts by the end of 2017, with the first one set to be installed sometime this month.
The Dutch company already has hundreds of EV charging posts installed across the country, many of which are located around Lee Valley Park, where a number of events were hosted during the 2012 London Olympics.
As part of the deal, Allego will install and operate 50kW fast EV chargers at various Shell service stations in Derby and Greater London.
The partnership follows on from the Queen’s Speech, where plans of a new Bill were decided that could see motorway services and petrol stations being made to install EV charging points.
Shell UK had already made the decision beforehand to introduce an EV infrastructure in the country, stating plans have been in the pipeline for quite some time.
Shell’s app will list all the locations to help customers find the best place for them to charge their EV.
Currently, Allego’s charge point map shows customers the location of charging points and whether it is free to use at the moment, unoccupied or status unknown.
“We are proud being a service partner for Shell and that we can contribute to the transition towards cleaner mobility,” said chief executive of Allego, Anja van Niersen.
