Classic cars from ‘Minder’ to go on auction

Ford Capri and Daimler Sovereign to go on sale at auction

The classic cars that were driven by George Cole and Dennis Waterman in the 80s iconic TV show, ‘Minder’, are to go under the hammer in April this year after careful restoration work.

The 1981 Daimler Sovereign, famously used by the lovable-rogue Arthur Daley, played by George Cole, in the ITV’s ‘Minder’, has recently undergone an important makeover in preparation for the auction room.

The classic car has been returned to the original paintwork that adorned it during the ITV production, which ran from 1979 until 1994. The mechanical workings of the iconic car have also been painstakingly restored and repaired as part of a £5,000 refurbishment project.

Classic 'Minder' cars to be auctioned off

The auction will be held at the Imperial War Museum in London

The Daimler, which has just 43,990 miles on the clock, is expected to sell for between £35,000 to £45,000.

Up in auction alongside the Daimler, is the white Ford Capri which was driven around the Minder set by Dennis Waterman, who played the show’s ‘Minder’, Terry McCann. The beautiful two-litre Ford made multiple appearances on our TV screens during the show’s lifetime throughout the 80s. The classic car has clocked 88,700 miles and is expected to make between £65,000 to £85,000.

The auction will take place at Imperial War Museum in Duxford on April 20. James McWilliam, a H&H Motorcar Specialist and the consigner of both cars, says that they are expected to make more at auction due to their TV history.

Mr McWilliam said: “Both cars have been sympathetically restored and estimated to make allowance for their small screen history. We know from past experience that playing a major role in a TV series can have a big impact on value…”
