If I Own A Pet, Should I Even Consider Leasing A Car?
We love our pets in the UK and occasionally the need arises for them to travel with us in the car, either for short trips to the local vet or when the annual holiday comes around and there’s no chance that ‘Fido’ isn’t coming too or simply because they’re our companions and love coming everywhere with us.
One question that we get asked quite often is whether you can lease a car if you have a dog or does being a pet owner mean you can’t ever lease?
Fortunately, being a pet owner doesn’t mean that you can’t lease a car, van or pickup from Flexed. The only issue is making sure the interior of your chosen lease vehicle is kept clean and damage-free in order to avoid end of lease charges.
At the end of your lease term, the vehicle you’ve been driving around in will be inspected for any damage that’s not covered under the BVRLA Fair Wear & Tear guide, so it’s advisable that you look after your lease vehicle carefully whilst in your possession, especially if you’re travelling with pets.
Obviously, it’s the interior that’s going to be most affected by carrying a pet and you can avoid causing any damage to the inside of your lease car by planning ahead and purchasing a few items to help keep it in tip-top condition.
If your dog is going to be travelling on the back seat with a harness on, you can buy seat protectors that are specifically designed to cover the entire back seat. This will ensure the seat is kept clean and scratch-free, plus it will help keep any dog hairs in one place so that they can simply be brushed out of the car after every journey.
You can also purchase car boot covers that protect the area from dirt, grime and scratches if your dog travels in the back of the car, for example in an estate car that has plenty of space.
Dog crates/cages are a good idea if you want to prevent your furry friend from being able to roam freely in the back of the car, as it keeps them protected within a confined area and also ensures no damage can be caused to your lease vehicle.
If you do have a dog that’s going to be riding with you in your lease car, a little clean up every day will ensure your lease vehicle is kept clean and tidy – vacuum the interior, check the seats for any signs of dirt and always carry a towel with you so that your furry friend can have it’s mucky paws wiped before jumping in!
Stick an air freshener inside to keep dog odours to a minimum and when travelling with your pet, open the windows to let some fresh air in but don’t let them hang out of the window as this can be dangerous.
If you’re looking to lease a car and have a four-legged friend who’ll be joining you on days out, we have a wide range of cars to choose from that are suitable for both you and your pet/s.
We can tailor the right deal for you based on what make and model you choose, how long you want to lease for and the mileage allowance required.
We specialise in short term leases which allow you to lease the car, van or pickup of your choice for a minimum of 28 days and after which, you decide whether to lease for longer, return the vehicle or switch to another model or make with no additional charges to pay.
Our rolling 28 day contracts are the flexible way of leasing without having to be tied into anything long term. You can simply increase or decrease the length of your lease at any time, with only a 28 day commitment.
We also offer long term rentals from 3 months, 6 or 12 months on a number of selected vehicles – please call 0800 311 8290 for more details.
