Travelling over the Easter weekend?

If so, be prepared for heavy traffic mixed with bad weather

It’s Easter this weekend and for many this means the first big escape of the year and according to the RAC, around 19 million leisure journeys will be undertaken from this Thursday to next Monday.
The automotive services company carried out a survey which showed that Thursday will be the busiest day on UK roads when holiday traffic mingles with the usual commuter traffic.
In total, 3.18 million individual leisure trips will be made on Thursday alongside the usual commuter traffic, whilst on Good Friday around 4.45 million leisure trips will be made.
The traffic is generally heavy over an Easter weekend and this year will be no exception, however the RAC has warned that bad weather mixed with busier roads will make them more chaotic than usual.

Despite Easter being slightly earlier this year than in 2017, the RAC’s research indicates that motorists are still revved up for a short getaway to make the most of an extended weekend.
“In fact, between Thursday and bank holiday Monday our data indicates around a million more confirmed leisure journeys by car than in 2017,” said RAC traffic spokesman Rod Dennis.
The weather forecast for the upcoming Easter weekend doesn’t look so promising for many parts of the country, with a risk of snow for some people and strong winds and rain forecast for many areas of the UK.
The RAC recommends motorists stay informed of the weather forecast for the week ahead, especially those who have a long journey planned over the Easter weekend.
Upgrades have been planned for some of the national rail network which could also affect traffic on the roads as buses pick up the slack and take to the roads in areas around the North West, South West and east of England.
One positive bit of news for both work and leisure commuters this Easter weekend is the fact that Highways England has put a vast majority (99%) of planned roadworks on hold over the Easter period which should go some way in ensuring smoother journeys for many.
