It could be the end of the road for the saying ‘white van man’ here in the UK, as a new survey suggests that more and more female drivers are turning to commercial vehicles than ever before.
According to their findings, around 32% of all van owners are now women, so the old stereotypical term might just be about to go out of fashion.
Over the past three years, there’s been an increase of 29% in female drivers applying for their C1 or C1E licences, which enables them to operate some of the biggest and heaviest vehicles on UK roads – rather than looking into a van or lorry and expecting to see a male behind the wheel, you might be surprised to find a female driver sitting there instead.

With a sharp rise in the number of leisure activities available and the need for bigger vehicles for business purposes, more and more females are looking at the white van to accommodate their requirements, so the term ‘white van man’ could soon become a thing of the past.
The study entailed asking over 2,000 van owners and what the results unearthed was more inaccuracies concerning drivers of white vans.
Of the 1.4 million households up and down the country that own a van, a staggering two out of five said they use their van for leisure activities and not for business purposes.
According to the study, it’s becoming less common that you’ll find a van with yesterday’s tabloid newspaper in alongside a pile of food wrappings, as 37% of middle class drivers are now jumping on the white van wagon.
