A Moto spokesperson said their service areas had scored on average 90%, however ā€˜major redevelopment works’ at Thurrock and Toddington southbound ā€˜had a negative impact on our customers’ perceptions’.

Overall, 92% of customers were happy with their visit to a motorway service station, however only 66% believed the food and drink on offer was good value for money.

“Motorway services play an important role in providing the break motorists need. Drivers tell us they feel less stressed and more awake,” said Transport Focus chief executive Anthony Smith, adding: “Operators need to focus on ensuring customers see their experience as value for the money they’ve paid – that there is a good range of food on offer and that buildings are maintained to a high standard.”
