Off to France this year for a holiday?

If so, make sure to use your sat nav correctly or you could face a hefty fine!

The summer holidays are upon us and for many motorists it’s time for their annual holiday abroad, with France being the most popular destination apparently this year.

Many motorists from the UK look forward to driving abroad and see it as an adventure but for some, the worry of trying to remember to drive on the other side of the road and not understanding another country’s road signs or how their traffic laws work can be a daunting experience.

And to add to all that, motorists are now being warned about how using a sat nav could see them penalised but why if all it does is help you get to your final destination?

Whilst it’s perfectly legal to use a sat nav when driving in France, there are a few instances where you could end up in trouble.

Off to France this year for a holiday?

If you’re off to France this summer, make sure to use your sat nav correctly or you could face a hefty fine!

According to French law, motorists cannot use sat nav’s which can actively deter speeding cameras.

This law has been in place since January 2012 and any motorist caught breaking the rules could be issued with a hefty fine.

The AA claims that fines can be as high as €1,500 but your device could also be confiscated or even your vehicle!

So, if you’re visiting France this summer and want to avoid being penalised, change the settings on your sat nav before you leave the UK so that any alert warnings are disabled.

Sometimes a software update might be required or if you’re sat nav is a in-built one, then you might need advice from the manufacturer.
