Geneva Motor Show 2017: opens to the public on March 9
March is now upon us, which means countdown has begun to the much anticipated annual automotive show held each year in the beautiful city of Geneva, in Switzerland.
The International Geneva Motor Show is held every year in the Swiss city, hosted at the Geneva Palexpo, a convention centre which is situated close to Geneva Cointrin International Airport.
Although Switzerland doesn’t have an auto industry of its own to speak of, the stunningly beautiful city is the perfect setting to show off all the new and unusual automotive delights from all over the world.
This year’s Salon International de L’automobile (French) will be the 87th time the event has been held, organised by the Organisation Internationale des Constructeurs d’Automobiles.
The Salon is considered to be one of the biggest international auto show events on the calendar, first held in 1905.
The Geneva Motor Show is regarded as one of the most important events in the European automobile industry, where brand new production cars are launched, concept cars are on display for all to see and big news stories are revealed.
Of course, it’s the exotic supercars that tend to steal the limelight at the show, with announcements made at the event concerning technical breakthroughs, new equipment, international partnerships and prototypes, plus so much more.
Now that the show is almost upon us, manufacturers have already started enticing us in, with images and information about new models that are set to be adorning this year’s stands.
As for what other spectacles will be gracing the show halls, if it’s anything like the past few years, there’ll be a number of surprises in store for the press and public alike.
This year’s highlights at the show include the unveiling of SEAT’s brand new Ibiza supermini, the new Renault Alpine A120, a new edition to the Range Rover family, with the Range Rover Velar SUV and a new look for the people’s favourite, the Nissan Qashqai.
The 87th International Geneva Motor Show opens its doors to the public on March 9, following two press days. Tickets for the show are now on sale.
