You could be fined ’10 Days’ if caught doing 51mph in a 30mph zone
New tougher speeding penalties come into force today across the UK, which could see motorists receiving a ’10 Days of pay’ fine if caught driving at speeds way over the legal limit.
As of today, motorists caught doing 51mph in a 30 zone, or 101mph on the motorway, will face a fine starting from one and a half times their weekly pay.

The previous level of punishment faced by drivers in England and Wales was 100% but the new increase has been greatly received by many motoring groups across the country.
A driver caught speeding way over the legal limit who earns £50,000 per year would have to pay £1,000 for doing 41mph in a 20 zone.
However, a cap will remain in place on fines consisting of £2,500 on a motorway and £1,000 for other roads.
The president of the AA Edmund King, said that the changes were “an effective way to penalise offenders”. Mr King also added that there was “no sensible reason” for excessive speeding and believes that responsible drivers will be more than happy to accept the new changes.
A survey carried out recently however by the consumer website Honest John, claims that 84% of those questioned had no idea about the new penalty changes.
Under the new changes, minor offences could lead to motorists facing fines of up to 50% of their weekly pay.
In 2015, a total of 244 people were killed as a result of a crash in which the driver was breaking the speed limit.
The new changes will punish those who continue to flount the law and drive at dangerous speeds that far exceed the legal limits.
Campaigns Director for the road safety charity Brake, Gary Rae, said the tougher penalties and fines for speeding offences were long overdue and “hopes that magistrates ensure the new sentences are consistently applied”.
