Will queuing to pay for fuel eventually become a thing of the past?

Jaguar reveal new in-car fuel payment app in conjunction with Shell

Jaguar have revealed a new in-car app, which will enable motorists to pay for their fuel at Shell petrol stations across the country without having to use their card at the pump, or join the queue inside the forecourt shop.
The driver will simply use the touchscreen infotainment system to pay for their fuel, rather than having to go inside to the tills, or fumble around for their card to pay at the pump.
Jaguar has also suggested that more e-commerce apps might be in the pipeline.

The company’s new app forms part of the updates for the 2018 model year, which were announced this week for the XE and XF saloon, as well as for its F-Pace SUV.
However, the app will be introduced in the very near future across the whole Jaguar and Land Rover ranges, from cars dated 2014 onwards that are equipped with the InControl Apps pack.
Jaguar’s new app has been launched as a joint venture with Shell, so will only work if you use it on a Shell forecourt.
Jaguar have promised that full coverage will eventually be available throughout the UK and plans are already underway to see the app rolled out globally.
The smart new app will also include geolocation data, which will alert the driver to a Shell station closest to them.
The in-car app will enable the driver to tap through a touch-screen display, which will ask them for a verification pin and pump number. A receipt will be sent to the user as an email, so there’s no need for any paperwork.
The app to some people might seem rather pointless – what’s so difficult about walking into the forecourt shop, or paying at the pump? However, Jaguar believes that the app could be particularly handy for those motorists with small children, as they can pay for their fuel without having to leave the car.
Jaguar’s new app is already available to download.
The company’s new in-car fuel paying app might be their first step into the e-commerce arena but it certainly won’t be their last, with plans to introduce in-car payment options for road tolls, parking and possibly drive-through restaurants at some point down the line.
