WARNING: New DVLA car tax scam doing the rounds

If you receive a tex message delete it immediately as it’s not from the DVLA

During the past 12 months, the UK has seen its fair share of car tax scams from fraudsters claiming to be from the DVLA and it looks as though a new one is doing the rounds.

The messages which are sent to people’s mobile phones generally say the same thing every time, along the lines of the DVLA owing the driver a certain amount of money that’s due because of an overpayment and to receive it the driver is required to fill out a form by clicking on a link.

UK motorists have twice this year experienced changes to car tax rates, so some drivers could be slightly confused about how much they should be paying, so need to be made aware of how important it is not to fall for the scam as a result.

So motorists are being warned about the new online scam that started circulating online close to the end of June.

The new scam text message sent to people’s mobile phone reads: “Due to new legislation you are eligible to a refund.

“Please follow the secure link http://dvla.is-certifed.com and fill in the required information.”

The same as in the past, drivers are being urged not to click on any links and ignore the message. The best advice is to delete the text immediately.

The new text message scam has been reported to the DVLA, who urge motorists to ignore the text if they receive one claiming to be from them.

The DVLA have on previous occasions following such scams informed the public that they never send any kind of text messages to motorists’ mobile phones.

“We don’t send emails or text messages that ask you to confirm your personal details or payment information, such as for a vehicle tax refund,” said the DVLA.

They advise anyone who receives such a message to never click on any links and to delete the text or email immediately.
