The Ford Fiesta is the most loved car in the UK but how does it fare in Europe?

What are the top selling new cars in other countries across Europe so far in 2016?

The UK’s favourite car is the Ford Fiesta – reigning supreme at the top of the UK car sales list for the past seven years.

The new 2017 Fiesta has recently been unveiled and Ford are hoping that their much loved supermini will keep its crown for many more years to come.

The Ford Fiesta may have been a firm favourite on British roads since 1976, but how does it fare in different countries across Europe?

Figures provided by bestsellingcarsblog.com give us an insight into what a number of different European countries think of the UK’s favourite supermini and also discover what brand of car sits proudly at the top of their car sales lists.

Will the Ford Fiesta feel the love in Europe? Not as much as we’d hoped but it did fare pretty well in Cyprus – third on the list behind the Nissan Qashqai in first place and the VW Golf in second.

The data revealed represents cars sales in 2016 up to the end of October.

Best Seller in the UK – Ford Fiesta

We Brits love the Ford Fiesta – nearly 104,000 car sales in the first 10 months of 2016. Next best seller on the list is the Vauxhall Corsa, which has a lot of catching up to do with almost 69,000 cars sold so far this year.

Best Seller in Denmark – Peugeot 208

The Fiesta didn’t fare so well with the Danes, sitting in eighth place on the list at the moment with the Peugeot 208 out on top with sales of 7,807 so far this year, almost double the number of Fiesta sales.

Best Seller in France – Renault Clio

When it comes to the French purchasing new cars, they don’t seem too keen on models that aren’t one of their own, hence the Renault Clio takes number one spot so far in 2016.

With this in mind, the Fiesta finds itself way down on the list at number 21, with sales so far of just 19,399, compared to 89,396 for the Renault Clio.

The top five places were taken up by different Renault and Peugeot models.

Best Seller in Germany – VW Golf

VW models hold the top three positions so far this year in Germany, with the VW Golf in first place.

The Ford Fiesta sits 19th on the list for sales so far this year in Germany – not so popular with the Germans!

Best Seller in Portugal – Renault Clio

It seems that the Portuguese people have the same taste as the French, with Renault and Peugeot models taking four of the five top places.

As for the UK’s favourite, not so good – 27th on the list so far this year for the Fiesta.
