There are 112 service stations up and down the country..
but which one’s have been voted the worst and best by you the customers?
Most of us at some point whilst on a journey have stopped off at one of the many service stations up and down the country, whether to use the WC, fill up with fuel or to nip in and grab a bite to eat but as customer’s, what do we really think about them overall – are they living up to our requirements?
A new survey has been carried out by independent watchdog Transport Focus to find out what motorists travelling up and down the country stopping at one of the 112 service stations in the UK really think about where they’ve pulled into.
The survey was conducted using 8,700 visitors who’d actually visited all of the 112 motorway service stations in the UK during the past year. They were asked to rate everything from the toilet facilities, to the friendliness of the staff and what kind of food was available.
The service station voted best in the country was Reading Services Westbound on the M4 – the Moto station scored the most points from a questionnaire that required drivers and passengers to rate the amenities at each service station they had gone into.
The best service station in England scored a 100% satisfaction rating from those taking part in the survey and so did the runner-up, Rivington Services Northbound on the M6.
Both services at the top of the list managed to beat off stiff competition from past popular rivals such as Tebay on the M6 and Westmoreland’s Gloucester Services which have been known as motorists’ favourites for many years because they provide a ‘farm shop’ experience, serving freshly made pizzas.
The service station finishing bottom of the list also happened to be one operated by Moto, Heston Services on the M4 Eastbound and only managed to score 62% for customer satisfaction, with one customer describing it as the ‘worst motorway services I’ve ever been to’ with toilets that are ‘pretty rank’.
According to the results from the survey, service stations on the whole provide customers with a positive experience and do play a huge positive role in making sure customer’s leave feeling rested and recharged before carrying on with their journey.
Overall, the study found that 90% of customers said they left the services satisfied, whilst 90% also said they were happy with the cleanliness of the toilets at the services, with staff friendliness scoring pretty high too on 94%.
“Motorway service operators must not rest on their laurels however; our message is clear – use the results to deliver even higher levels of customer satisfaction in future,” said Anthony Smith, chief executive of the transport watchdog.
